In
opening ritual women called Isis with rattles and a tambourine.
Then each woman lit a candle to represent the wisdom she sought
from Isis.
The
program was presented in three parts.
MYTH
Presented by Hilary
Schutter, Caria Moran, Beth Blumit and Joan Robinson-Blumit.
Four
women dramatized Isis at different periods of her worship and
wore an aspect of her image.
The
Deification of the Wife of the Pharoh (Isis with a throne
perched on top her head)
Sister-Wife
to Osiris (Isis with wings)
Assimilation of Hathor and other Goddesses (Isis with a headdress
that has cow horns surrounding a sun disk)
Beyond
Egypt (Isis with a crown)
MOTHER
Presented by Sherry
Gilbert and Brenda Hill.
After
meditation, women decorated a sarcophagus and wrote on parchment
what she wished to be reborn, what she was leaving behind,
and how she wished it to be reborn (or her wish for a child).
MAGICK
Presented by Caileah Chadwick, Pam Logan and Norie Winter.
Magickal
Egyptian symbols and the goal of spell casting as related to
Isis were explained. Women blended incense and placed it in
representative canoptic jars with the following words:
Great Mother Goddess Isis, enclose me in your loving arms.
Nurture and bring forth the Goddess within me, making me whole
and complete. Help me to shine in the light of your Golden
Wings, being all that I am and all that I can become.
A bountiful dinner featured falafel, baba ghanooge, baklava
and other Egyptian
recipes.
Closing
ritual led by Shelley Kelly featured sacred breathing and
a spiral dance.
Leaders
and planners volunteered their time and resources. A silent
auction featured Isis related items that had been donated.
The
goddess-women attending raised $300 for the Soujorner
Center.
